Increasing the Minimum Wage Will Reduce Income Inequality...

No person can maximize the American Dream on the minimum wage. -- Benjamin Todd Jealous No family gets rich from earning the minimum wage. In fact, the current minimum wage does not even lift a family out of poverty. -- Jon Corzine Income inequality has been a major problem facing American society for decades, but has recently become a major concern. I personally believe the major gap between the income of the rich and poor is a not just, but is not a major concern for the government and society. If the Federal Government addresses other major concerns facing American citizens the inequality will be adjusted due to other changes. The government needs to step in and adjust minimum wage and public education. If the government†¦show more content†¦Not only is minimum wage a major social issue that needs to be addressed in order to help appease income inequality, but also education is a huge social concern. The reason this is such a concern is because families living in low income housing neighborhoods attend low income schools and are unable to rise above, because their schools do not have the same quality funding as high income neighborhood schools or private ones. The low income schools do not have prop er funding and put the students at an immediate disadvantage compared to high income neighborhood schools and private schools. I personally believe if the Federal Government supplies public schools with more than just 15% of their budget, students would not be at such a disadvantage and have a greater chance to be motivated to attend college and hopefully obtain a degree to earn a high wage job. In my education classes the teachers place a huge emphasis on making sure students are getting full educations. Meaning students start in kindergarten or a pre-kindergarten program and finish high school in order to benefit society and not bring society down. The fact is the earnings of high school graduates have grown â€Å"more rapidly, so that the gap between dropout and graduate earnings expanded over time,† even if they do not attend college it is so important for students to graduate from high school so the inequality does not increase even more (Becker 1). Are The Brains Of Reckless Teens More Mature Than Those Of...

Overview of the Main Topic In the article, â€Å"Are the Brains of Reckless Teens More Mature Than Those of Their Prudent Peers?†, Epstein and Ong (2009) investigated the relationship between brain maturity and adolescent risk-taking. They challenged the traditional view that adolescent risk-takers had underdeveloped brains. Contrary to the traditional view, recent brain-imaging data showed white matter that resembled those of adults. This provided support for the new claim that adolescent risk-takers exhibited mature brains. This paper will review the traditional view, current research findings, and will analyze criticisms and support for the research question. Review of Key Findings The authors explored the traditional view, focusing on structural and functional studies of grey matter and developmental differences in frontal lobe and emotion-related brain areas. They provided two explanations that weakened this view. First, biological factors were primarily responsible for predisposing risk tendencies. This made it difficult to account for cross-cultural differences. Second, because the brain was responsive to environmental stressors and was able to change accordingly, it was not known whether structural changes reflected those stressors. Subsequent research conducted by neuroscientists at Emory University suggested an association between adolescent risk-taking and mature brain development. Ninety-one adolescents were assessed using the Adolescent Risk-Taking QuestionnaireShow MoreRelatedEffects of Juveniles Prosecuted as an Adult Essay2500 Words   |  10 Pagescriminal acts committed by juveniles. Where do you start? Is he sincere this time? So many questions running through my head so much hurt and pain still. From then on I have guarded my heart like the jewel it is and protected it from anyone’s harm. This situation elicited the most change on me because never will I ever love the same. I take my life day by day now, planning a future with someone Is so cliche © too me. Had to realize that forever really is not forever and that relationships are day by day, anything could happen tomorrow. People change every day, they meet new faces all the time I feel as if someone finds a person who fits your spot in there life and who plays the role better will become your replacement and you will become nothing but a memory, to some people what means everything to them today can, become nothing to them tomorrow and that’s just how some people are. Reminiscing on the days when I thought people waited till they were 21 to drink. Couples waited until they were married to have sex, people didn’t do drugs. I thought you would always end up marrying your soul mate, I thought your friends were your friends and they would never leave your side, that everyone you said â€Å"I love you† too would say it back, and that your love story will end up like the movies. It’s Just crazy how you grow up with all this love and hope in your heart and then you’re thrown into what you think Is a twisted. KC and cold world but It’s actually Just life and you Just have to live It. In my head I tell myself I’m still the same person I was a year ago but in all reality I’m not. Never did I realize that a person could cause so much Inner pain and there was no cure, no David or Misspoken can fix this boo boo, b ut too face the reality of it all, and over time hoping to get better. That causes me to zone out, get distracted, cry at night, ignore and push away anybody who tries to get to know me. I’m not sure how long will I be hurt or when I will find closure to my situation but it this has had the biggest impact on me this summer. The scariest thing about loyalty is that everyone has their own definition of it. When I thought of my boyfriend I thought he was the most loyal of them all. I thought he would be different from the rest and that he could prove to me that all guys were not the same. When he said he loved me I believed it, when he said he had my back I believed it, when he said he was loyal to me and only me I believed it but when all these emotions that I thought were so pure turned out to have flaws. I had begun to think maybe he was not lying and that he was exhibiting his own definition of love, compassion and loyalty or maybe he had been hurt before and his heart is guarded ND never realized instead of being the heartbroken became the heartbreak. Then I try to analyze the situation like I do all situations but still till this day I cannot come up to a conclusion as to why†¦ He would do that and maybe I will never know the real reason or never will I know the whole truth but for now I have to face the reality of it and in hopes to move on and be able to love again someday.
